Mossel Bay Great White Sightings Update 14/03/2023

Mossel Bay is known for being one of the best places in the world to observe the great white shark in its natural habitat. With its pristine waters and abundant marine life, it is no surprise that many tourists flock to the area to catch a glimpse of these magnificent creatures.

On the 25th February 2023, Mossel Bay saw a visit from two orcas named "Port" and "Starboard." Their presence is known to scare away the great white sharks, and their visit caused a lull in sightings around the area. However, on the 2nd of March, there was a natural predation witnessed by crew members of the White Shark Africa cage diving boat next to Seal Island.

Then, on the 9th and 10th of March, a great white shark was spotted near the cage diving boat anchored near Klein Brak River. A helicopter also witnessed six sharks around the Hartenbos area around the same time. It is worth noting that no sharks have been spotted from the boat since then.

It is important to remember that great white sharks are wild animals, and their movements and behaviours cannot be predicted with certainty. Sightings are never guaranteed, and it is essential to treat these animals with respect.

If you are planning a trip to Mossel Bay to observe great white sharks, it is essential to do so with a reputable tour operator that follows responsible and sustainable practices. This ensures the safety of both the sharks and the tourists while also contributing to the conservation efforts in the area.
